Buccaneers move into NJCAA rankings at No. 23

The Blinn College men's basketball team made its second appearance of the season in the NJCAA rankings, moving up to No. 23 in a poll released Jan. 5.

The Buccaneers earned their second spot in the rankings and prior to that hadn't been ranked since January 2004.

"I am just proud of my guys for the hard work that they have put in," said head coach Scott Schumacher.

Blinn has started the season winning 13 of its first 15 games with losses coming to No. 2 Trinity Valley Community College and Panola College.

"It is nice to be ranked but we are still hungry as a team," said point guard John Dewey. "We have learned to just not be satisfied after a win or a loss."

Dewey was a big reason that Blinn was able to beat Kilgore College on Jan. 2 as he hit clutch free throws and a jump shot to beat the Rangers 91-88 in overtime in Brenham. Dewey is averaging a double-double with 12.5 points and 10 assists per game.

Blinn will have a tough game at home Saturday, Jan. 9 with a game against Navarro College at 4 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 32 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
