BRENHAM, Texas – Blinn College men's basketball found itself trailing by one with 3:19 left to Lone Star College-Cy Fair but the Buccaneers closed out the game on a 15-4 run to secure an 83-75 victory Wednesday night inside the P.E. Building.

The victory over Cy Fair breaks a two-game losing streak for Blinn as the Buccaneers improved to 19-8 overall and stay at a level 8-8 in Region XIV play.

"This time of year, any time you can get a win is good because it has been a grind of a season," said Blinn coach Scott Schumacher. "The fact that we are 19-8 with three to go is a positive for our team."

Blinn was in for a battle from Cy Fair and James Harrison was up to that challenge in the first half with 15 of his 21 points coming in the first 20 minutes to lead the Buccaneers.

"Coach knew I would have a mismatch down there so I was able to get myself in a position to score," Harrison said. "I was patient offensively and my teammates did a good job of watching the defenders move around off me."

John Dewey put together an impressive second half with 20 of his 24 points coming late in the game. Morris Dunnigan was also strong in the second half with 14 of his 16 points scored in the second half.

Blinn wasn't able to create much separation in the first half as Harrison scored four consecutive points to give the Buccaneers a 25-19 lead with 4:25 left. Harrison was finding space down low and scoring in bunches in the first half as he scored four points in the final 1:19 to give Blinn a 35-28 lead at the break. Harrison was the only Buccaneer in double figures with 15.

Dewey and Dunnigan came out hot in the second half. Dewey scored his seventh point of the half on a layup to give Blinn a 53-39 lead with 12:57 left. Dunnigan tried to keep the offense going but it was Cy Fair cutting into the Blinn lead as Cy Fair even took a 69-68 lead with 3:19 left.

That is when the Buccaneers went on their 15-4 run as Dewey scored six points in that stretch to build up an 83-73 lead with 5.6 seconds left. Cy Fair hit a meaningless bucket in the final seconds but Blinn was able to secure the eight-point victory.

Blinn will be at home Saturday, Feb. 20 against Angelina College at 4 p.m. to get back into conference play.
