Buccaneers drop pair of games to conclude Abilene Tournament

ABILENE, Texas — Blinn College softball (10-7) dropped a pair of games against Midland College and Navarro College to conclude the Abilene Tournament with a 2-3 record on Saturday afternoon.

Blinn lost its first game against Midland in the ninth inning, 3-1, before falling to Navarro, 9-2.

Midland 3 – Blinn 1 

Despite a strong pitching performance, the Buccaneers fell to Midland College in the ninth inning, 3-1. 

Meghan Morris pitched a solid game, throwing eight innings and giving up two earned runs on five hits, while striking out six.

Amber Langston and Kimber Cortemelia were the only Buccaneers to record hits, while Langston scored Blinn's only run. 

Blinn's lone run was scored in the first inning when Langston scored on an error. Midland evened the score 1-1 in the third inning.

With the game tied, Blinn and Midland pitched four scoreless innings for the game to head into extra innings. 

Midland managed to get two runs across the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning to walk off with the win. 

Navarro 9 – Blinn 2

Navarro used a strong offense to dish Blinn a 9-2 loss in the final game of the tournament. 

Anna Pisaro scored both of Blinn's runs in the game, while Pisaro, Darby Jones and Julissa Llanos recorded the team's only hits with one apiece.

After Navarro opened the game with a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Blinn evened the score in the bottom half after Pisaro scored on an error.

Blinn held a 2-1 lead for a short time after Pisaro stole home in the third inning.

Navarro scored three runs in the fourth inning to take back a 4-2 lead. In the sixth inning the Bulldogs took off with the game by scoring five runs. 

Next, the Buccaneers will host Odessa College in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 2, starting at 1 p.m. at Hohlt Park.  

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
