Blinn softball drops pair of games to No. 2 LSU Eunice

EUNICE, La. — No. 2 (Division II) Louisiana State University Eunice used an explosive offense to defeat Blinn College softball (19-12, 6-0) in both games of a doubleheader, 8-2 and 10-2, Saturday afternoon.

LSU Eunice 8 – Blinn 2

Although Blinn outhit LSU Eunice in the first game of the doubleheader, five late runs allowed the Bengals to put the Buccaneers away 8-2.

Amber Langston led Blinn's offense that totaled 10 hits by going 3-for-4, while Maria Garcia and Mayela Fernandez each drove in a run.

Blinn opened the game with a 1-0 lead after Anna Pisaro scored on a groundout in the first inning.

The Bengals quickly tied the game in the bottom of the first inning and extended their lead to 2-1 by scoring in the third inning.

The Buccaneers scored their final run to tie the game 2-2 in the fourth inning. With two outs, Sarah Cedillo and Fernandez hit back-to-back singles for Cedillo to score.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, LSU-Eunice pulled ahead 3-2. The Bengals took off with the game in the sixth inning by scoring five runs.

LSU Eunice 10 – Blinn 2

Blinn couldn't recover from an early deficit for the Bengals to defeat the Buccaneers 10-2 for the sweep.

Garcia and Mackenzi Crews each drove in one run, while Pisaro and Crews each scored one run to lead Blinn's offense.

After hitting a double, Pisaro scored Blinn's first run off Garcia's single for the Buccaneers to lead 1-0 in the first inning.

However, LSU Eunice answered back with five runs in the bottom of the opening inning to take the lead for good.

Blinn scored its final run in the second inning when Crews hit a solo home run.

The Bengals finished off Blinn by scoring two runs in the bottom of the second inning, one run in the third inning and two runs in the fifth inning.

Next, Blinn will travel to face Baton Rouge Community College on Sunday, March 24, in a doubleheader starting at noon.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
