No. 16 Angelina dishes No. 17 Blinn first postseason loss, 5-0

LUFKIN, Texas — No. 17 Blinn College softball suffered a 5-0 loss to No. 16 Angelina College in the second round of the 2019 NJCAA Region XIV Softball Tournament Tuesday night at the Larry Phillips Family Sports Complex. 

On offense, Sarah Cedillo, Maria Garcia, Bailey ZIbelin and Mackenzi Crews all manufactured hits, while Garcia, Tori Alvarez-Lopez and Courtney Ogle all drew walks. However, the Buccaneers were shutout after leaving eight runners stranded, including the bases loaded in the opening inning. 

Angelina scored its first run in the second inning with a one-run double and extended its lead to 4-0 in the third inning with a three-run homer. 

In the fifth inning, Angelina hit another one-run double for its final run of the game. 

With the loss, the Buccaneers fall to 43-14 overall. Next, Blinn will play Bossier Parish Community College on Wednesday, May 15, at 2:30 p.m. 

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 41 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
