Blinn softball sweeps Trinity Valley in doubleheader, 5-2 and 5-4

ATHENS, Texas — Blinn College softball (13-10) bounced back by sweeping Trinity Valley Community College in a doubleheader, 5-2 and 5-4, on Sunday to end the weekend on a high note.

Blinn's offense totaled 19 hits, while Meghan Morris recorded both wins in the circle for the Buccaneers in the doubleheader.

Blinn 5 – Trinity Valley 2

Bailey Zibelin fueled Blinn's offense with three RBIs to lead the Buccaneers to a 5-2 victory over Trinity Valley to start the day.

Zibelin, Tori Alvarez-Lopez, Amber Langston, Kimber Cortemelia and Maria Garcia all scored runs in the win.

Morris sealed the win in the circle after throwing all seven innings and only surrendering one earned run and three hits, while striking out six.

Blinn jumped out to a 4-0 lead by the fourth inning. Alvarez-Lopez scored on an error for Blinn's first run in the first inning, while Bailey Zibelin hit a three run-homer in the fourth inning.

Trinity Valley landed on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning with one run.

Blinn scored its final run in the fifth inning when Langston scored on an error, while Trinity Valley's final run came in the sixth inning.

Blinn 5 – Trinity Valley 4

Blinn finished off the sweep by defeating Trinity Valley, 5-4.

Morris recorded her second win of the day after coming in for the final 4 1/3 innings of the game and not allowing a run.

Julissa Llanos led Blinn's offense with two RBIs, while Alvarez-Lopez and Anna Pisaro each recorded one.  

Garcia scored Blinn's first run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Llanos in the second inning for the Buccaneers to lead 1-0.

In the third inning, Pisaro stole home for the Buccaneers to pull ahead 2-0.

Blinn lost its lead in the bottom of the third inning when Trinity Valley scored four runs.

Blinn hurried to grab it back, scoring three runs in the fourth inning. Llanos batted the first run in with a single for Zibelin to score. Mackenzie Crews scored the next run on a one-run single by Alvarez-Lopez to tie the game 4-4. Pisaro drove in the final run with a single for Llanos to score and Blinn to take back a 5-4 lead for good.

Next, Blinn will open conference play against Laredo Community College in a doubleheader on Friday, March 15, starting at 2 p.m. at Hohlt Park.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
