WHITEHOUSE, Texas — Blinn College softball (11-10) lost to No. 5 Tyler Junior College in both games of a doubleheader on Saturday. Blinn fell, 13-1, in five innings in the first game, and 10-2, in six innings in the second game.
Tyler 13 – Blinn 1
Tyler defeated Blinn in the first game of the doubleheader, 13-1, in five innings.
Anna Pisaro drove in Blinn's only run, while Kimber Cortemelia scored it. Maria Garcia was perfect at the plate with two hits.
Blinn fell behind early after Tyler scored 11 runs in three innings. The Apaches scored five runs in each of the first and third innings, and one run in the second inning.
Blinn scored its only run in the fourth inning to trail 11-1 after Amber Langston, Garica and Pisaro each hit singles in the inning. Cortemelia reached first base on a fielder's choice and scored off of Pisaro's single.
Tyler added its final two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Tyler 10 – Blinn 2
Although Tyler and Blinn each tallied five hits in the second game of the doubleheader, the Apaches came out on top on the scoreboard to defeat Blinn, 10-2, in six innings.
Cortemelia went 2-for-3 to lead Blinn's offense, while recording one RBI and one run. Courtney Ogle recorded one RBI, while Tori Alvarez-Lopez recorded one run.
Blinn scored the first run of the game in the first inning to lead 1-0. An error allowed Alvarez-Lopez to lead off the inning on base, while Langston's single moved her into scoring position. She scored on a single off the bat of Cortemelia.
Tyler got on the board in the third inning with three runs to take the lead.
Blinn scored its final run in the third inning off of a one-run single by Ogle for Cortemelia to score.
Tyler's offense continued to produce, scoring one run in the bottom of the third inning, and three runs in each of the fourth and sixth innings for the win.
Next, Blinn will compete against Trinity Valley Community College in a doubleheader on Sunday, March 10, starting at noon in Athens.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
