Defensive miscues cost Buccaneers vs. Trinity Valley, 3-2

CORSICANA, Texas – The Blinn Buccaneers and San Jacinto Coyotes will put their seasons on the line Saturday in the third day of the Region XIV Softball Tournament.

Trinity Valley defeated Blinn 3-2 here Friday, sending the Buccaneers to an elimination game against San Jacinto at 10 a.m. Saturday. The winner of that game will play another elimination game at 5:30 p.m.

San Jacinto (40-24) defeated Alvin 6-0 Friday to advance to Saturday morning's contest.

Errors proved costly for the Buccaneers against Trinity Valley. The Lady Cardinals scored on a passed ball and an error in the first inning, then took advantage of another passed ball in the third, eventually scoring on a sacrifice fly. In the fifth, another Buccaneer error extended Trinity Valley's lead to 3-0.

Blinn freshman Peyton Webb hit a two-run double in the sixth.

Sophomore Caitie Carney (11-7) took the loss for Blinn after allowing two runs on six hits. Freshman Shannon O'Connor took over in the fourth and pitched the rest of the way.

The loss dropped the Buccaneers to 32-19 on the season.
