BRENHAM, Texas – The Blinn Buccaneers and San Jacinto Coyotes split an afternoon double-header at Hohlt Park here Wednesday night.
Blinn captured the first game 2-1 before San Jacinto took home the win in the nightcap, 7-6 in eight innings.
Freshman pitcher Shannon O'Connor was dominant in the opener as she threw a three-hitter. San Jacinto's only run was unearned.
After the Coyotes took a 1-0 first-inning lead, Blinn tied the score in the fifth as Christa Hartnett was hit by a pitch and came around to score on a fielder's choice. In the sixth inning, freshman Sydney Wellmann scored the game-winning run on a San Jacinto error.
San Jacinto jumped out to an early lead in Game 2. Blinn trailed 6-0 heading into the sixth inning and still didn't have a hit, but rallied for five runs as Taylor Guidry, Kristina Davila and Shelbe Sterling each drove in runs.
The Coyotes scored the game-winning run in the eighth. O'Connor (8-8), who started the game, was briefly replaced by sophomore Caitie Carney, then returned in the fifth inning, took the loss.
Blinn is now 16-15 on the season and 2-4 in Region XIV Conference play. The Bucs host Alvin for a 2 p.m. double-header at Hohlt Park Friday.
