Blinn’s Federwisch signs with UTSA

After racking up just about every award junior college softball has to offer, Blinn College pitcher Kaci Federwisch announced today that she has signed with the University of Texas-San Antonio.

Federwisch, a Brenham High School product, earned NJCAA All-America honors and was named the Region XIV Conference Player of the Year after she posted a 26-7 record over 221 1/3 innings this season. She recorded a 1.48 ERA while piling up 141 strikeouts and walking just 18.

Federwisch credited the efforts of Blinn head coach Rick Church and assistant Jami Ingram for helping her grow as a pitcher and a student-athlete. Blinn went to the NJCAA National Championships in both of Federwisch's seasons, and has qualified each of the past four years. This year's team placed among the top six at nationals.

"The coaches helped me more than they could ever know," Federwisch said. "I don't think I could be where I am without them, especially getting Player of the Year. I owe it all to Coach Ingram and Coach Church.

"I'm never going to forget Blinn and I'm definitely never going to forget these coaches."
Federwisch went 14-2 her freshman year with a 1.63 ERA over 111 2/3 innings. She struck out 73 and walked 12. In high school, Federwisch was an all-state selection. She accumulated 63 wins and struck out 579 batters in her prep career.

"She improved all throughout her freshman year, was a huge influence in our region and at nationals in 2011, and of course she had a phenomenal year this year," Church said. "She had a chance to be one of the best pitchers in the region when we recruited her, and lo and behold, she's named the Region XIV Player of the Year her sophomore year. She's certainly lived up to expectations."

Federwisch said she was attracted to UTSA because of the school's size, and the presence of another former Buccaneer pitcher, Alyssa Vordenbaum, who will be a senior for the Roadrunners next season.

UTSA, which competes in the Southland Conference, went 24-28 last season.
