Blinn softball splits double-header with Alvin

BRENHAM, Texas – The Blinn Buccaneers and Alvin Dolphins split a Region XIV softball double-header at Hohlt Park today, as the Buccaneers won the opener 9-2 but Alvin rallied to win the second game 9-4.

The Buccaneers scored four runs in the opening inning, then carried that momentum throughout the Game 1 victory. Sophomore outfielder Tiffani McKnight went 2-for-3 with a first-inning home run and sophomore catcher Kristina Davila was 3-for-3 with three doubles and two RBIs.

Sophomore infielder Shelbe Sterling hit a three-run home run and Allison Artz drove in a run on a bunt single.

Freshman pitcher Shannon O'Connor (11-8) earned the win as she allowed two unearned runs and struck out six.

The Buccaneers held the early lead in the second game as well, but Alvin rallied for six runs in the sixth inning.

Davila went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and McKnight went 2-for-4 with a double. Freshman third baseman Peyton Webb went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.

Sophomore Caitie Carney (4-6) pitched into the sixth inning before O'Connor came on in relief.

The loss snapped a three-game Buccaneer win streak.

Blinn is now 19-16 on the season and 5-5 in the Region XIV Conference. The Buccaneers are now off until April 3, when they play Angelina College in a 2 p.m. double-header at Lufkin.
