Blinn College assistant volleyball coach Katie Adams was selected by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside as its 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year Award nominee.

The NCAA Woman of the Year program honors the academic achievements, athletics excellence, community service, and leadership of graduating female college athletes from all three divisions. To be eligible, nominees must have competed and earned a varsity letter in an NCAA-sponsored sport, completed eligibility in their primary sport, and have earned their undergraduate degree by Summer 2019.

"I am very honored to be nominated for his prestigious award," Adams said.

Adams joined Terry Gamble on the Blinn volleyball coaching staff in June after graduating from Parkside. She played volleyball for four years and joined the track and field team her senior year.

As a setter and hitter at Parkside, Adams started every match over the past two seasons and finished her career seventh all-time in career assists. She ranked first in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and second nationally in triple-doubles while leading the team in assists. Adams finished second in points and kills and third in digs in 2018 on her way to honorable mention all-conference honors.

She also broke the Parkside record in the javelin with a mark of 35.67 meters.

In 2016, Adams was the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award recipient. In 2017-18, she was a back-to-back winner of the Student-Athlete of the Year at the Ranger Awards, an award that combines athletics and academics. She also served for two years as the President of the Ranger Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

The top 30 Woman of the Year honorees will be celebrated and the winner will be named at the annual NCAA awards ceremony Oct. 20 in Indianapolis.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 41 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
