Blinn volleyball captures third conference win after topping Laredo, 3-1

LAREDO, Texas — Blinn College volleyball (17-6, 3-0) remains undefeated in conference play after topping Laredo Community College, 3-1 (25-17, 21-25, 25-20 and 25-16) on Wednesday night in Laredo. 

"It's nice to get the win," said Terry Gamble, Blinn head coach. "We need to compete more consistently to become a great team." 

Shelby Sheets, who was announced as the NJCAA Division I Volleyball Tachikara Offensive Player of the Week today, led Blinn's offense in kills with 27. She now leads the NJCAA with 466 kills. 

Cheyenne Te'o led Blinn's defense with 24 digs, while Roxanne Morris followed with 17 digs and led the Buccaneers with 27 assists. She also recorded nine kills in the match. Sam Boatman posted 19 assists, while Taylor Henderson recorded nine kills and four blocks. 

Blinn opened the match strong as the Buccaneers were able to hold a steady lead through the first set to capture a 25-17 victory. Laredo evened the match after taking the second set 25-21. 

Blinn was able to bounce back in the third set with a 25-20 victory and took the match after defeating Laredo in the fourth set by the score of 25-16.

The Buccaneers will return home on Friday, Oct. 5, to open the Blinn Invitational at the Kruse Center and are looking to remain undefeated at home. Blinn will face Odessa College at noon and Coastal Alabama at 5 p.m. to open the tournament on Friday. On Saturday, Oct. 6, Blinn will compete against Frank Phillips College at 9 a.m. and finish the tournament against No. 5 Navarro College. 

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
