Blinn College sophomore outside hitter Shelby Sheets (San Antonio) earned first-team NJCAA Division I All-America and second-team AVCA Two-Year College All-America honors after leading the nation in total kills and kills per set during the 2018 season.

"It feels great to see that my hard work paid off," Sheets said. "I couldn't have done it without my great teammates, coaches and family."

Sheets was also named the Region XIV All-Conference Volleyball Player of the Year after leading the NJCAA with 843 total kills and 6.34 kills per set to help the Buccaneers to a conference championship. Sheets broke the Blinn record for kills in a season, and was named NJCAA Division I Volleyball Tachikara Offensive Player of the Week after recording 119 kills and a .280 hitting percentage in Week 5. Sheets has signed to continue her playing career with Stephen F. Austin State University.

"When you have a player awarded All-America honors it is always special. This is such an accomplishment for not only her, but it reflects on all her  teammates," said Terry Gamble, Blinn head coach. "The season that she had this year, leading the country in kills and kills per set, was a good thing for our volleyball program and Blinn College."

Roxanne Morris (Goliad) joined Sheets with first-team all-conference honors after being named  the conference Setter of the Year. Morris led the Buccaneers with 674 assists while recording 297 digs and 187 kills in 125 sets.

Samantha Boatman (Houston) and freshman Cheyenne Te'o (Laie, Hawaii) also earned first-team honors, while freshman Taylor Henderson (Austin) earned second-team honors and freshman Jasmine McLemore (San Antonio) was named honorable mention.

Boatman was second on the team with 620 assists, while also recording 236 digs in 127 sets. Te'o led Blinn with 404 digs, while recording 124 assists in 121 sets.                                                            

Henderson led Blinn with 114 blocks and was second on the team with 250 kills in 127 sets, while McLemore was second on the team with 93 blocks and fourth on the team with 135 kills.                            

Gamble was named Coach of the Year after leading the Buccaneers to a 29-10 overall record and 8-0 conference record to finish the season ranked No. 17. In addition, he picked up his 900th career win this season. 

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
