Blinn men’s basketball defeats Coastal Bend, 78-58, to finish regular season play

BRENHAM, Texas — Blinn College men's basketball (21-9, 8-9) ended the regular season on a high note after defeating Coastal Bend College, 78-58, Saturday in the Kruse Center.

"In the second half, we kept grinding and were eventually able to pull away from a very good Coastal Bend team," said Scott Schumacher, Blinn head coach. "Sophomores Kai Tease and JaQuan Morris have played very well for us all year long and will be missed. It was also a pleasure to coach redshirt freshmen Matt Adams, Garrett Savant and Will Simpson who will graduate this year."

Tease and Morris led Blinn's offense in the regular season with 449 and 451 points, respectively. They combined for 36 points in today's win as Tease led the team with 20 and Morris scored 16.

AJ Rainey also recorded 19 points, while Tristan Ikpe recorded 11.

After falling behind 33-30 at the half, the Buccaneers held Coastal Bend to 25 points in the second half. Blinn's offense came alive in the final half, scoring 48 points, for a 20-point victory.

Next, Blinn will compete in the Region XIV Tournament, starting Tuesday, March 5, in Shreveport, La.                                                                                                                                                                          

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
