Blinn tops Lone Star College-Tomball, 94-65

BRENHAM, Texas — JaQuan Morris tallied 20 points to help lead the Buccaneers to a 94-65 victory over Lone Star College-Tomball Tuesday night in the Kruse Center.

With the win, the Buccaneers are undefeated with a 3-0 record.

"It was a close game in the first half and that was good for us to have to fight through and face some adversity," said Scott Schumacher, Blinn head coach. "In the second half we played harder and it was nice to come up with the win."

Emmanuel White followed Morris with 13 points, while Tristan Ikpe and Matt Adams each chipped in 12. Jalin Suber finished with nine.

Blinn and Lone Star College-Tomball played a close first half as the Buccaneers only held a 40-39 lead at the half. In the second half, the Buccaneers outscored the Timberwolves 54-26 for the win.

Morris led Blinn's offense to a lead in the first half with 16 points. The Timberwolves held a 16-11 advantage to open the game until AJ Rainey sparked the offense with a two-pointer to start a 6-0 run. Tied 39-39, Ikpe sunk a free throw with 56 seconds left to give Blinn a one-point lead at the half.  

In the second half, Blinn's offense managed 54 points and was led by Adams with 10 points. After Lone Star College-Tomball evened the score 41-41, a slam dunk by Adams started a 10-point run. Three straight two-pointers by White, Morris and Nic Tata pulled Blinn ahead 57-42.  With five minutes remaining, Ryan Pollard led Blinn with four points on an 8-0 run for the Buccaneers to take an 82-55 lead. Suber scored Blinn's final four points for the victory.                     

Next, Blinn will play Richland College on Friday, Nov. 9, at 5 p.m. in Plano.    

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
