Buccaneers topple No. 17 Tyler, 3-0, to close the Blinn Premier Tournament

BRENHAM, Texas - The Buccaneers picked up their third sweep this season against No. 17 Tyler Junior College to conclude the Blinn College Premier Tournament Saturday night in the P.E. Building.

Blinn was able to upset Tyler by the score of 28-26, 25-23, and 25-21. The Buccaneers bounced back with the sweep after falling to No. 3 Iowa Western Community College, 3-0, earlier in the day by the score of 21-25, 13-25, and 22-25. After splitting the day, the Buccaneers record moves to 6-2.

Iowa Western 3 - Blinn 0

The Buccaneers opened the day with their first loss in the Blinn College Premier Tournament as Iowa Western came up with a 3-0 victory.

Iowa Western narrowly won the first set 25-21 before beating the Buccaneers by 12 points for a 25-13 win in the second set. The Buccaneers came close to keeping the match alive, but fell 25-22 in the third set for their second loss of the season.

Blinn 3 - Tyler 0

The Buccaneers bounced back against Tyler as they left the court with a 3-0 win to close the Blinn College Premier Tournament.

"They played hard every play," said Kalie Mader, Blinn head coach.

Every match was close between Tyler and Blinn, but it was Buccaneers that dished Tyler a 28-26 loss in the first set. The Buccaneers built on the momentum and took down Tyler 25-23 in the second set and managed to down Tyler in the final set 25-21 for the sweep.

The Buccaneers finished the Blinn College Premier Tournament with a 2-1 record. Blinn will face New Mexico Military Institute at 10 a.m. and Barton Community College at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, at the Odessa Tournament.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
