Blinn’s Kylee Kaaihue earns all-conference Setter of the Year award

Blinn College setter Kylee Kaaihue (Honolulu) was named the Region XIV all-conference Setter of the Year.

"This award reflects all of us because I couldn't have done it without the team this year," Kaaihue said. "It's amazing because I searched for a whole year and came back to lead the team well my sophomore season."

Sophomore Kaaihue recorded 597 assists and 192 digs in 116 sets to help the Buccaneers win a conference co-championship this season.

Joining Kaaihue with first team all-conference honors were sophomores Paola Marie Salas Adorno (Toa Alta) and Kayla Valigura (Hallettsville), while Julia Fritz (Spring) and Amina Olajuwon (Huntsville) earned second team honors. Claire Chapman (Tarkington) and Roxanne Morris (Goliad) were named honorable mention.

Outside hitter Adorno led the Buccaneers with 452 kills this season, seventh best in the nation, and was second on the team with 408 digs in 110 sets. She broke the Blinn record for most kills in a set after recording 40 kills in a match against New Mexico Military Institute.

Middle blocker Valigura led the Buccaneers with 137 blocks, and recorded 186 kills, while sophomore middle blocker Olajuwon was second on the team with 98 blocks and recorded 180 kills. Freshman libero Fritz led Blinn with 611 digs in 114 sets.

Freshman outside hitter Chapman was second on the team with 269 kills, while freshman outside hitter Morris was finished the season with 179 kills and was third on the team with 70 blocks.

Blinn finished the season with a 24-9 record and was first in the Region XIV South with a 9-1 record.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
