BRENHAM, Texas — Blinn College baseball (10-9, 3-6) totaled 12 hits in order to defeat South Suburban College, 9-7, Wednesday at Leroy Dreyer Field.

Reggie McCalister went 2-for-4 to lead Blinn with two RBIs and three runs, while Tyler Russell followed with two hits, driving in one run and scoring two. Jake Miller also racked up two RBIs in the win.

On defense, the pitching staff only surrendered three earned runs. Jace Hutchins recorded the win on the mound for Blinn after throwing three innings and allowing one hit, while striking out six. Brandon Symmank pitched two scoreless innings and struck out three, while Otto Stacey threw one scoreless inning. Tyler Henson recorded the save, pitching one scoreless inning and striking out two.

Blinn struck early as Miller and Russell each hit solo home runs for the Buccaneers to take a 2-0 lead in the first inning and hold onto it for the remainder of the game.

South Suburban scored its first run in the second inning to cut Blinn's lead in half, but the Buccaneers answered back with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Preston Hoffart led off the inning for Blinn with a solo homer, while Kevin House scored off of Miller's sacrifice fly.

McCalister hit a two-run homer in the third inning for Blinn to extend its lead to 6-1.

The Buccaneers pulled ahead 7-1 in the fifth inning after Greyson Kash's double allowed McCalister to score.

South Suburban's biggest inning was in the seventh when the Bulldogs scored four runs to cut Blinn's lead down to 7-5.

Blinn answered back with its final two runs in the seventh inning. Brett Minninch drove in the first run of the inning  for Blinn with a single for McCalister to score, and then scored Blinn's final run on a sacrifice fly by Nick Wolff.

South Suburban rallied for two runs in the eighth inning, but it wasn't enough to catch the Buccaneers.

Next, Blinn will resume conference play on the road against Laredo Community College on Friday, March 15, at 6 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
