Alvin comes back to defeat Blinn, 6-5

ALVIN, Texas — Alvin Community College scored three runs in the ninth inning to walk-off with a 6-5 victory over Blinn College baseball (9-9, 3-6) Saturday.

Alec Sanchez led Blinn's offense with two RBIs, while Cameron Gibbons drove in one run.

Gibbons, Westley Schields, Tyler Russell, Brett Minninch and Preston Hoffart scored one run each.

Alvin scored the first run of the game in the first inning, but the Buccaneers grabbed the lead in the third inning by scoring four runs.  Russell and Minninch led off the inning with back-to-back singles and Russell scored on an error. Schields, Gibbons and Sanchez strung together three singles for Minninch, Hoffart and Schields to score and Blinn to lead 4-1.

Alvin scored one run in the third inning to cut Blinn's lead down, but Gibbons scored one run on a passed ball in the fifth inning for Blinn to pull back ahead by three runs.

Alvin added one run to the board in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Blinn entered the ninth inning with a 5-3 lead, but Alvin was able to rally for three runs for the win.

Blinn will face off against South Suburban College in a non-conference game on Wednesday, March 13, at 3 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
