Galveston tops Buccaneers, 3-1

BRENHAM, Texas — A dominant pitching effort by Jacob Millender, who struck out 14, wasn't enough as Blinn College baseball (8-5, 2-2) fell to Galveston College, 3-1, Friday afternoon at Leroy Dreyer Field.

Jacob Millender had a strong start on the mound, throwing eight innings and only surrendering three runs on four hits. Grayson Smith pitched in the ninth inning, not allowing a hit.

Alec Sanchez recorded the only run and RBI for the Buccaneers in the game with a solo home run. Jake Miller led Blinn with two hits, while Westley Schields, Cameron Gibbons and Sanchez tallied one hit each.

Every run scored in the game by Galveston and Blinn was a result of the long ball.

Galveston opened the game with a two-run homer in the top of the first inning to take a quick lead.

Alec Sanchez scored Blinn's only run in the fourth inning to cut Galveston's lead in half.

Galveston scored its final run with a solo shot in the eighth inning to take a 3-1 lead.

The Buccaneers will continue the three-game conference series against Galveston on Saturday, March 2, with a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. on the road.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
