TEMPLE, Texas — Although Blinn College baseball (8-4, 2-1) outhit Temple College, 19-15, in Tuesday's doubleheader, the Buccaneers dropped both non-conference games to the Leopards by the scores of 12-5 and 5-4.

Temple 12 – Blinn 5

Despite tallying nine hits, the Buccaneers fell to Temple, 12-5, in the opening game of the doubleheader.

Jake Miller led Blinn's offense with three RBIs, while Cameron Gibbons and Blake Faecher each recorded two hits.

Temple took the lead for good in the first inning, scoring six runs. 

Blinn scored the next two runs as Brett Minninch scored a run on a groundout in the second inning and Gibbons hit a solo home run in the third inning.

However, Temple pulled ahead 10-2 after scoring four runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Blinn scored its final three runs in the fourth inning to close in on Temple, 10-5. Miller hit a two-run double for Faecher and Matt Crossley to score, and later scored on a groundout.

Temple added one run in both the fifth and sixth innings for the final.

Temple 5 – Blinn 4

Although Blinn outhit Temple, 9-4, the Leopards defeated the Buccaneers, 5-4, for the sweep.

On the offensive side, Miller, Gibbons and Westley Schields led Blinn with two hits each, while Reggie McCalister, Alec Sanchez and Miller all drove in one run.

On defense, Richard Gilbert pitched the first two innings, surrendering one earned run on one hit. Matthew Swick threw one inning and surrendered one earned run on two hits, while Brice Armistead and Brandon Symmank each tossed hitless innings. Tyler Henson threw the last inning for Blinn, striking out three.

Temple took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Blinn cut its lead in half with McCalister's home run in the third inning.

Temple answered back in the bottom of the third inning with three runs to extend its lead to 5-1.

Blinn chipped away at Temple's lead, scoring one run in the fifth inning and two runs in the sixth inning. After leading off with a walk, Cody Vinklarek scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Sanchez in the fifth inning. In the sixth inning, Faecher scored on Miller's double, while Miller scored the final run of the game on an error.

Blinn will resume conference play at home with a nine-inning game against Galveston College on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m. at Leroy Dreyer Field.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
