Blinn picks up seventh straight conference win after downing Alvin, 4-1 and 8-1

Brenham, Texas — Blinn College baseball picked up its seventh straight conference win after limiting Alvin Community College to two runs in a doubleheader to defeat the Dolphins by the scores of 4-1 and 8-1 on Thursday afternoon at Leroy Dreyer Field.

With the pair of wins, the Buccaneers improve to 27-13 overall and 19-6 in Region XIV play.

Blinn 4 – Alvin 1

A solid pitching performance by Andrew Morgan and Eli Reichmann along with two runs driven in by Gray Rodgers allowed the Buccaneers to defeat Alvin 4-1 in the first game of the doubleheader.

Rodgers led the offense with two RBIs, while Alec Sanchez and Koby Collins each drove in one.

Morgan claimed the win after only surrendering one run on two hits, while striking out seven in five innings. Reichmann pitched the final two scoreless innings and only allowed two hits, while striking out five.

Collins hit a solo home run in the third inning to give Blinn a 1-0 lead. The Buccaneers extended their lead to 4-0 after scoring three runs in the fourth inning. Rodgers drove in the first two runs with a double for Cameron Gibbons and Marshall Skinner to score, while Sanchez singled to bring Rodgers home.

Alvin scored its lone run in the fifth inning for a 4-1 final.

Blinn 8 – Alvin 1

The Buccaneers used a strong offense and defense to close out the doubleheader against Alvin with an 8-1 victory.

Jacob Millender recorded the win after throwing six innings and only allowing one run on six hits, while striking out four. Jackson Leath came out of the bullpen to pitch two scoreless innings, while Bryce Miller pitched one.

Marshall Skinner drove in two runs, while McCalister scored three runs to lead the offense.

Blinn took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning after Skinner hit a two-run shot for McCalister to also score.

Alvin cut Blinn's lead in half after scoring one run in the fifth inning, but the Buccaneers answered back in the bottom half with five runs. Brandon Ashy drove in the first run of the inning with a single for McCalister to score. Rodgers scored next on a balk, while Ashy, Sanchez and Cameron Gibbons all scored on errors for Blinn to lead 7-1.

Blinn added its final run in the sixth inning after McCalister scored on Alvin's third error.

The Buccaneers will continue the conference series at Alvin on Friday, April 20 in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
