BRENHAM, Texas - Blinn College baseball used a combination of offense and defense to storm past South Suburban College, 13-1, in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon at Leroy Dreyer Field.

With the win, the Buccaneers increase their overall record to 13-7 while their conference record remains at 8-1.

Koby Collins led Blinn's offense with four RBIs and one run after hitting a grand slam, while Gray Rodgers and Zach Cherry each drove in two runs. Rodgers and Alec Sanchez led Blinn after scoring two runs each.

Cody Collins sealed the win on the mound for the Buccaneers after not allowing a run and only surrendering one hit in one inning of work.

The game began as a pitching duel as both teams remained scoreless after three innings. However, Blinn's offense exploded in the fourth inning as the Buccaneers quickly tallied 10 runs for a significant lead.

Rodgers and Cherry led off the inning with back-to-back singles, while Jacob Miller followed with a walk to load the bases. Collins unloaded the bases with a grand slam for Blinn to take a 4-0 lead. Sammy Blair, Brandon Ashy and Cameron Gibbons loaded the bases back up for the Buccaneers, and Sanchez and Marshall Skinner followed with back-to-back walks for Blinn to score two runs. With the bases still loaded, Rodgers hit a double for Gibbons and Sanchez to score. Cherry finished up the inning with a two-run single to send home Skinner and Rodgers and for Blinn to hold a 10-0 advantage.

South Suburban's only run in the game was in the fifth inning, while Blinn also added a run to the board in the inning after Reggie McAlister scored on a wild pitch.

Blinn scored its final two runs in the seventh inning to gain a 13-1 lead. Elijah Saldana led off the inning with a walk and then scored on an error, while Sanchez scored on a sacrifice fly hit by Cameron Draehn.

The Buccaneers will resume conference play against No. 5 San Jacinto College-North on Thursday, March 15 at 6 p.m. at Leroy Dreyer Field. The Buccaneers lead the Region XIV conference with an 8-1 record, while San Jacinto College-North follows with a 7-2 record.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
