Healthy Buccaneers wear down Panola on the road, 77-62

CARTHAGE, Texas – For the first time in a while the Blinn College women's basketball entered a game fully healthy and the depth showed as the Buccaneers pulled away from Panola College for a 77-62 victory Jan. 14 in Carthage.

Blinn had the ability to play 11 girls and the Buccaneers wore down Panola in the second half and outscored them by 12 points in the final 20 minutes to improve their record to 5-3 in conference and 12-6 overall.

Nancy Warioba was a big reason for the success in the second half as she scored 13 of her 17 points in the final period to led the Buccaneers in scoring. Shakera Barnes finished with 12 and Katelynn Johnson had 10.

The scoring for Blinn was very spread out as Moe Bedford, Chant Lewis and Brianna Luton each had six points. Penina Faumui finished with five points while Ashley Cherry and Alexus Freeman each had four points.

Blinn was able to cling to a slim 31-28 lead at halftime but came out determined in the second half and ran away with the game.

"We played well defensively and we played hard," said Blinn head coach Jeff Jenkins. "We just got more defensive stops in the second half.

Warioba was able to find space in the key in the second half and made a few easy shots to total 13 points in the second half.

Blinn will next be at home Jan. 17 when it hosts Jacksonville College at 4 p.m.
