Buccaneers offense runs past Bossier Parish in conference opener, 108-77

BRENHAM, Texas – Blinn College women's basketball got the offense going early and rolled to a 108-77 victory over Bossier Parish in its conference opener Nov. 22 in Brenham.

The Buccaneers had a balanced scoring attack that was led by Shakera Barnes and Nancy Warioba with 15 points each. Ashley Cherry came close to the team-high with 14 points that was matched by Katelynn Johnson who also totaled 14.

Chant Lewis chipped in with 13 points as the final player in double-digit scoring. Brianna Luton was able to score nine points in the win. The Buccaneers were able to get 10 of 11 players to score seven or more points in the victory.

The game was close at the very beginning as it was all square at 8-8 early on but then Blinn took control of the game with a solid offensive attack. That offense led the Buccaneers to a commanding 63-40 lead.

"We were able to score in transition and in the half court on offense," said Blinn head coach Jeff Jenkins. "We did send them to the foul 17 times in the first half and we need to cut down on that."

Even with the minor mistakes, Blinn was still able to maintain control of the game and outscore Bossier Paris by eight points in the second half to secure the 31-point victory to open conference play.

Jenkins said that he was impressed with the play of Jonnelle Jackson, who got into the game early on and put in some quality minutes for the Buccaneers in the win.

Blinn, now 5-3 overall and 1-0 in conference, will travel to face Trinity Valley Community College on Nov. 25 for a game at 5:30 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 29 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
