Buccaneers run past Louisiana State University-Eunice

EUNICE, La. - Scoring often in transition, Blinn College women's basketball didn't get much of an opportunity to work on their half-court sets against Louisiana State University-Eunice but that didn't spoil the road trip for the Buccaneers.

Using their multiple transition opportunities, Blinn ran away with a 119-73 victory in Eunice, La., on Nov. 3.

Six different players scored in double figures for Blinn as Ashley Cherry and Katelynn Johnson had 15 points each. Moe Bedford added 16 points in her first game back after taking a year off following a knee injury.

Shakera Barnes chipped in with 12, Alexus Freeman had 11 points and Penina Faumui added 10 points.

Blinn held a 64-35 lead at the half and then extended out the deficit to win by 46 points. The Buccaneers showed off their depth by getting points for all players on the bench as well.

"We are a pretty deep team," said head coach Jeff Jenkins. "We really have 12 girls that can play at any time."

The first half was a little closer than Jenkins would have liked but he mentioned that his team sent LSU-Eunice to the free throw line too many times in the first half but improved in the second half.

Even in a 46-point victory, Jenkins wasn't too please with his team defensively and saw a lot of deficiencies with stopping Eunice but was pleased overall with the effort of his girls.

"All 12 girls played hard for us tonight," Jenkins said after the game.

Blinn will have their home opener on Nov. 5 against Temple College at 5:30 p.m.
