Buccaneers unable to catch up to confident Angelina, 66-62

LUFKIN, Texas – Blinn College women's basketball was right with Angelina College for nearly the entire game but the Buccaneers just didn't have enough to grab the lead late and lost 66-62 Feb. 21 in Lufkin.

Nancy Warioba had a solid game for Blinn with 26 points in the point while Alexus Freeman chipped in 13 points but it wasn't enough to earn the victory. The road loss drops the Blinn conference record to 11-7 and 18-10 overall.

Blinn stayed tight with Angelina early on and only trailed 34-26 at the half. Blinn would cut the lead down and then Angelina would counter right back and build its lead back up all night until the final buzzer.

"It was a pretty good game and in our league right now third, fourth, fifth and sixth place teams are pretty even," said head coach Jeff Jenkins. "Angelina just outplayed us tonight."

Blinn will host its final home game of the season against Trinity Valley Community College Feb. 25 at 5:30 p.m. The game will be the sophomore night with the team honoring its sophomores that will be playing their final game at Blinn College.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 30 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
