Blinn cracks the NJCAA’s top 20, climbs to No. 18

The Blinn College football team cracked the NJCAA's top 20 poll for the first time this season in the wake of an 80-0 victory over Arkansas Baptist College.

The NJCAA ranked Blinn No. 18 in the nation in its new poll released today. The Buccaneers are off to a 3-1 start to the season, with their lone defeat coming at the hands of ninth-ranked Tyler Junior College. The Bucs have outscored their opponents 119-9 in their three victories.

Quarterback Jake Hubenak completed 35 of 45 passes for 601 yards and 10 touchdowns in Saturday's win over Arkansas Baptist and now has 1,926 yards and 26 touchdowns on the season.

DeVante Mays leads the Buccaneers' rushing attack with 219 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries, and Dede Westbrook already has 38 receptions this season for 788 yards and eight touchdowns. Damion Ratley has 18 catches for 364 yards and eight scores, and Kaylon Melancon has 15 catches for 217 yards and three touchdowns.

Justin Johnson leads the Buccaneer defense with 28 tackles and 2.5 sacks, while Alan Wright has 24 tackles and an interception. Reggie Anderson has two interceptions through Blinn's first four games.

The Buccaneers have a bye this week, but return to action Oct. 4 when they play at Cisco College at 3 p.m.
