Buccaneers fall short in fourth quarter

The Blinn College football team fell short of a victory by just one point Saturday night to fourth-ranked Trinity Valley Community College.

Blinn led 21-0 in the first quarter behind two touchdowns from Damion Ratley and one from DaVante Mays.

Another touchdown from Kinte Hatton kept Blinn ahead 28-14 at the half. Momentum continued with another touchdown from Dede Westbrook and a field goal by Eric Piccione, bringing the Bucs ahead 38-28 in the third quarter as Trinity Valley began to gain ground.

The Bucs continued to lead behind another field goal by Piccione, but Trinity Valley scored just as the clock ran out in the final quarter, ending the game 41-42.

"It was a sad loss for our team—they played so hard," coach Keith Thomas said. "We had some errors right at the end and some calls that cost us. We brought what we could out to the field."

The Bucs return to action Oct. 18 when they play at Kilgore College at 3 p.m.
