Hubenak throws 10 TDs as Buccaneers shut out Arkansas Baptist, 80-0

BRENHAM, Texas – Jake Hubenak and the potent Blinn Buccaneer offense racked up big points – and another lopsided win – in an 80-0 victory over Arkansas Baptist on Saturday.

Hubenak threw 10 touchdown passes, including three to Dede Westbrook, as the Buccaneers jumped out to a 65-0 halftime lead. The teams played with a running clock through much of the second half.

"It was unbelievable," Blinn (3-1) coach Keith Thomas said. "It's a tough offense with some great backs and receivers, and our offensive line played really well today."

Damion Ratley and Darrion Landry each caught a pair of touchdown passes. Gaylon Sanders and Jordan Randolph also reached the end zone. Brett Kocian added a 27-yard field goal.

Hubenak, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound redshirt freshman from Georgetown, Texas, now has 26 touchdown passes through four games this season.

"I'm sure he's leading the nation in completions and touchdowns," Thomas said.

In their three victories this season, the Buccaneers have outscored their opponents 199-9. Their lone defeat was a 72-65 loss to 10th-ranked Tyler Junior College.

The Buccaneer defense pitched its first shutout of the season, forcing three turnovers, including an interception by Ron Knowles. Malik Pryor also blocked a punt on special teams.

"Since the Tyler game we've put together a really good defensive package and the kids are working hard," Thomas said.

Saturday's game was the Buccaneers' Here I Am Orphan Ministries Fundraiser game, in which Blinn raises money for Here I Am Orphan Ministries, a Christian non-profit ministry that cares for orphans through prayer, missions, education, advocacy and adoption awareness. The fundraising effort is part of Blinn's annual Adopt-a-Charity program, in which all Blinn athletic programs dedicate a portion of their gate proceeds toward that year's charity. The Buccaneers return to action Oct. 4 when they play at Cisco College at 3 p.m.
