Buccaneers blow out Norsemen 42-3 for first conference victory

MIAMI, Okla. – An explosive first half propelled the Blinn College football team to a 42-3 victory over Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College here Saturday.

The Buccaneers jumped out to a 30-3 lead by halftime.

Quarterback Jake Hubenak threw four touchdowns, including two to Damion Ratley. Dede Westbrook and Kinte Hatton each hauled in touchdown passes, and running backs DeVante Mays and Gaylon Sanders each scored touchdowns on the ground.

Eric Piccione booted a 45-yard field goal.

Defensively, the Buccaneers forced four turnovers, including two fumbles and interceptions by Tralund Webber and Alan Wright.

"Our defense flew around and really played hard," Blinn (2-1, 1-1 in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference) coach Keith Thomas said. "We challenged them before the game and the only points NEO scored were off a turnover deep in our territory."

The Buccaneers return to action Saturday, Sept. 20, when they host Arkansas Baptist College at 3 p.m. at Cub Stadium in Brenham. The game will be the Buccaneers' Here I Am Orphan Ministries Fundraiser game, in which Blinn raises money for Here I Am Orphan Ministries, a Christian non-profit ministry that cares for orphans through prayer, missions, education, advocacy and adoption awareness.

The fundraising effort is part of Blinn's annual Adopt-a-Charity program, in which all of Blinn's athletic programs dedicate a portion of their gate proceeds toward that year's charity. For more information on Here I Am Orphan Ministries, visit www.orphanministries.com.
