Alvin sweeps Buccaneers in conference doubleheader

The Blinn baseball team couldn't find its offense as the Alvin Dolphins swept Friday's doubleheader at Leroy Dreyer Field.

Alvin starting pitcher Bryson Mitchell, a right-handed submarine pitcher, beat out Blinn starter Robbie Dickey in Game 1, 1-0, in a game that featured just eight hits between the two pitchers. The Dolphins won the second game 6-0.

Dickey, who tossed the complete game, struggled with his command at times but still managed to strike out 10 Dolphins and kept the Buccaneers in the game.

Alvin crossed the game's only run in the top of the fifth after Dickey allowed a one-out walk, then gave up a double to leftfield.

Blinn (22-17, 15-11) managed only three hits off Mitchell, but had scoring chances in the third and fifth innings.

In both innings, the Bucs had two runners on but failed to bring them home on both occasions.

Nolan Brown, Stephen Stuart and Reed Robinson got the Bucs' only hits.

The Bucs' offensive woes continued in the second game as the offense had only seven baserunners on five hits and two walks.

Blinn and Alvin will conclude their four-game series Saturday at 1 p.m. in Alvin.
