Brown drives in three in Buccaneers’ 5-3 victory

Nolan Brown provided the clutch hits the Blinn baseball team needed Thursday at Leroy Dreyer Field.

With those, including a game-winning RBI double in Game 2, the Buccaneers beat the San Jacinto Gators 5-3 in the nightcap. San Jacinto defeated Blinn 5-0 in Game 1.

With one out in the bottom of the eighth, and the Bucs trailing San Jacinto 4-3, Brown laced a two-run double to left field that scored Cullen Jozwiak and Jager Toffan to give Blinn a 5-3 lead. It was a lead that sophomore Dillon Mazzaccoli saved in the top of the ninth to secure the victory for the Bucs.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Brown knocked his third home run of the season to tie the game.

Both knocks couldn't have come at a time for a Blinn offense that struggled to manufacture any runs in Game 1. Brown went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored in Game 2.

Brown's offensive production gave starting pitcher Robbie Dickey his fourth win of the season. Dickey (4-1) quieted the San Jacinto offense for much of the game, allowing three runs—all unearned—on three hits and striking out eight through eight innings of work.

On the season, Dickey holds a 1.88 ERA in 24 innings and has struck out 41 batters.

The Gators took advantage of an error and two walks in the fifth inning of Game 1 to take a 5-0 lead. Stephen Stuart had two hits, and starting pitcher Caden Williams tossed 4 1-3 innings of two-hit ball. Williams allowed two earned runs, struck out three and walked four.

Due to the threat of inclement weather on Saturday, Blinn and San Jacinto will close out their four-game series Friday at 4 p.m. in Pasadena.
