PASADENA, Texas – The game-changing hits didn't come for the Blinn baseball team in Game 1 of its doubleheader against San Jacinto here Friday night.

By the fourth inning of Game 2, the Buccaneers pounded four runs and responded to a 5-2 loss with an 8-5 win over the Gators.

The teams split the four-game series, as San Jacinto took Game 1 5-0 Thursday and Blinn won 5-3 in Game 2.

"It was good to get that fourth inning," Blinn (17-11, 10-6) coach Harvey McIntyre said. "In Game 1 we scored a run and scored a run but could never get a punch through to blow the game open. In the second game, we were able to do that."

Trailing 4-2 going into the top of the fourth, James Duval hit a leadoff double and later scored on a Jager Toffan sacrifice fly. Following a Nolan Brown single to load the bases, freshman Caden Williams walked to score Clayton Auippa.

With the bases loaded, sophomore first baseman Cullen Gassaway rifled a double to right field to score Jose Reyes and Brown to make it a 6-4 game.

Blinn added two insurance runs in the top of the sixth with RBI doubles by Brown and Williams.

Gassaway, who bats in the four-hole, has driven in 35 runs through 28 games and is batting a team-best .408.

Blinn's 2-3-4 hitters—Brown, Williams and Gassaway—combined to go 6-for-12 with four runs scored and seven RBI in Friday's nightcap.

"It's been good to see them get going," McIntyre said. "They've been consistently producing the past couple of games."

Freshman Christian Thames earned the win after tossing six innings of relief, allowing one run on one hit and striking out four. He replaced starting pitcher Keith Brenner, who tossed 2 1-3 innings and gave up four runs—two earned—on two hits.

"Thames gave us his best effort tonight," McIntyre said.

Blinn dropped the first game after San Jacinto took a 3-2 lead after three innings.

Brown was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Stephen Stuart was 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Seth Ballew relieved Shane McCarley and gave up two runs on five hits in 3 2-3 innings.

"I thought if we punched a few balls through we would have run away with the game," McIntyre said. "To walk away with a split is a positive for sure."
