No. 17 Blinn volleyball finishes DAC Fall Classic undefeated

IRVING, Texas — No. 17 Blinn College volleyball (14-1) finished the DAC Fall Classic with a perfect 4-0 record after sweeping North Lake College and Southwestern Christian College on Saturday.

Blinn defeated North Lake, 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-22), and Southwestern Christian College, 3-0 (25-6, 25-2, 25-7), to conclude the tournament.  

"We played good all weekend and I am really proud of the girls," said Terry Gamble, Blinn head coach.

Blinn 3 – North Lake 0

The Buccaneers earned their fourth straight sweep by taking down North Lake, 3-0, to start the day.

Giulia Hortelan led Blinn's offense with 12 kills, while Chloe Mullins led the defense with 12 digs. Jenni Liu recorded 37 assists in the match and Mullins served four aces.

Blinn kicked off the match with a 25-19 win. Hortelan helped keep the momentum rolling for the Buccaneers, recording seven kills in the second set, for Blinn to claim a 25-20 win. A strong defensive effort by Mullins, who jumped in with seven digs, helped lead Blinn to a 25-22 victory in the third set for the sweep.

Blinn 3 – Southwestern Christian 0

The Buccaneers used a strong offense to defeat Southwestern Christian, 3-0, to conclude the tournament undefeated.

Rachel Barnett led the Buccaneers with 12 kills, while Mullins served seven aces. Liu and Kaitlyn Pollard shared time in the setter position, combining for 27 assists. On defense, Kya Yanez led Blinn with six digs.

Blinn won the first set 25-6 and Mullins' six aces in the second set helped lead the Buccaneers to a dominating 25-2 win. Blinn earned the sweep by defeating Southwestern Christian 25-7 in the third set.

Next, Blinn will return home to the Kruse Center on Tuesday, September 10, to take on Temple College at 6 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 41 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
