Buccaneers earn Region XIV South Zone championship

BEEVILLE, Texas — Blinn College volleyball (25-7, 7-0) earned the Region XIV South Zone championship after sweeping Coastal Bend College, 3-0 (25-18, 25-18 and 25-22), on Wednesday night. 

"It is nice to win the conference," said Terry Gamble, Blinn head coach. "I am happy for the girls and Blinn College." 

With the win, the Buccaneers remain undefeated in Region XIV play with a 7-0 record. 

Cheyenne Te'o totaled 13 digs to lead the defense, while Shelby Sheets led the offense with 18 kills. Jasmine McLemore followed on offense with 10 kills and led Blinn with six blocks. Samantha Boatman tallied 18 assists and 10 digs, while Roxanne Morris recorded 16 assists and four blocks. 

Blinn opened the match strong, winning the first set 25-18. The Buccaneers kept the momentum in their favor by taking down Coastal Bend, 25-18, in the second set. Blinn secured the sweep with a 25-22 victory in the third set. 

Next, the Buccaneers will return home to face Victoria College in a non-conference match on Thursday, Oct. 18, at 6 p.m. in the Kruse Center. 

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
