No. 20 Blinn drops season opener to No. 19 Trinity Valley, 3-0

ATHENS, Texas — No. 20 Blinn College volleyball (0-1) fell to No. 19 Trinity Valley Community College, 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-15) on Wednesday night in Athens, Texas.

Shelby Sheets led the Buccaneers on offense with five kills, while Roxanne Morris anchored the defense with eight digs.

Trinity Valley gained early momentum in the first set, first jumping out to a 12-7 lead and then downing the Buccaneers 25-16 to set the tone in the match.

Blinn settled in during the second set and traded points with the Lady Cardinals. Trinity Valley managed to take an 11-8 lead over Blinn and built on it until gaining a 25-17 victory.

Trinity Valley headed into the third match with momentum and used it to claim a 25-15 win and sweep the Buccaneers.

The Buccaneers will look for their first win of the season on Friday, Aug. 24, at the Midland College Invitational. Blinn faces Western Texas College at 10 a.m. and follows with a match against Ranger College at 2 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
