Blinn volleyball sweeps Lee for first conference win on the road, 3-0

BAYTOWN, Texas — Blinn College volleyball (13-5, 2-0) claimed its first conference victory on the road with a sweep over Lee College, 3-0 (25-21, 25-16 and 25-18), on Tuesday night.

"It is nice to get a conference win on the road," said Terry Gamble, Blinn head coach.

With the win, the Buccaneers are undefeated in conference with a 2-0 record and have won six straight.

On defense, Cheyenne Te'o led with 23 digs, while Julia Fritz followed with 15 digs. Offensively, Blinn was led by Shelby Sheets with 12 kills, while Roxanne Morris followed with seven kills. Morris also posted 10 assists, nine digs and four blocks. Samantha Boatman led the Buccaneers with 13 assists.

The Buccaneers and the Lady Rebels played a close first match exchanging the lead. Blinn trailed 20-19 before using a 3-0 run to pull ahead and eventually take the first set, 25-21.

In the second set, the Buccaneers built a 12-9 lead and used a 6-2 run to extend it to 18-11. Blinn managed to hold onto the lead to a 25-16 victory.

Blinn fell behind early in the third set 7-2, but fought back for an 18-17 lead. Sheets delivered three aces in a row to keep the momentum and lead the Buccaneers to a 25-18 win for the sweep.

Next, Blinn will compete in the Tyler Tournament on Friday, Sept. 28. First, the Buccaneers will face Hutchinson Community College at 11 a.m. and then compete against Monroe College at 3 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
