Less than a week after receiving NJCAA All-American honors, two Blinn College sophomores are back in the national spotlight.
Bruna Evangelista and Crystal Young were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association Two-Year Colleges All-American teams on Monday.
Evangelista and Young were instrumental in helping the Buccaneers capture their second national title in three years and the program's third in the past five. Evangelista was named a first-team All-American after she recorded 584 kills (4.0 per set) on the season, including a 23-kill performance in the national title game against Tyler Junior College. She was named the national tournament MVP.
For her career, Evangelista recorded 852 kills in 1,712 attempts for a .383 hitting percentage.
The majority of those kills came with the assist of Young.
A second-team AVCA All-American, Young rewrote the Blinn record books this year with 1,546 assists this season, shattering the previous single-season mark set by Megan Loftin in 2006 (1,410). She averaged nearly 11 assists per set.
