No. 12 Laredo slides by Blinn men’s soccer, 4-2

LAREDO, Texas — Blinn College men's soccer (3-4, 3-4) worked hard to upset No. 12 Laredo Community College, but the Palominos were able to claim a 4-2 victory on Wednesday afternoon.

Daniel Lopez scored in his third straight game for Blinn, recording one goal and one assist against Laredo. Luis Garcia scored one goal for the Buccaneers, while Alexis Rodriguez recorded one assist. Blinn recorded six saves in the game with Erasto Cardenos leading the team with four. Out of nine shots, five of Blinn's shots were on goal.

"I am proud of the guys for working hard and fighting until the end of every game," said Jorden Smith, Blinn head coach. "We are a talented team, but our heart and desire are what sets us apart."  

Blinn held Laredo down until the 43rd minute when the Palominos scored to hold a 1-0 lead at the half. They improved their score to 3-0 after scoring in the 55th and 70th minutes.

In the 79th minute, Garcia scored the first goal for Blinn and Rodriguez and Lopez each recorded an assist for the shot. Lopez scored with 20 seconds left for Blinn to trail 3-2. Laredo quickly answered back with a shot with six seconds left for a 4-2 final.

The Buccaneers return home on Friday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. to compete against Jacksonville College at 7 p.m. at Rankin Field. The women's soccer team will compete prior to the men's soccer game, starting at 5 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
