Jorden Smith has been named the head coach of Blinn College's inaugural men's and women's soccer teams, athletic director Scott Schumacher has announced.
"We are honored to welcome Jorden Smith to the Buccaneer family and look forward to watching her build our men's and women's soccer programs from the ground up," Schumacher said. "Jorden has an enthusiasm and excitement for the position that is unmatched, and she is committed to helping Blinn student-athletes succeed in the classroom."
In March, Blinn announced the addition of men's and women's soccer for the Fall 2018 season. Blinn will hold open tryouts Sunday, June 3, for athletes at all positions. The women's soccer tryouts will be from 9 a.m. to noon, while men's soccer tryouts will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Hohlt Park in Brenham (2425 N. Park Street).

Smith comes to Blinn after spending the past two seasons as the head assistant for the Angelina College men's and women's soccer programs. She previously served as the assistant coach at Cisco College.
"Blinn College is a well-known, well-established institution and I am extremely excited to help it grow and advance as the head coach of its newest athletic programs," Smith said. "I look forward to laying the foundation for these programs."
Smith helped launch Angelina's men's and women's soccer programs in 2016. Since its launch, the women's soccer team compiled a 15-18 record and reached the NJCAA Region XIV Tournament semifinals.
Smith served as the assistant coach at Cisco College from 2014-2016, when the Lady Wranglers compiled a 22-10-4 record, were named regular season champions both seasons, and competed in the NJCAA Region V Championship both seasons. In 2014, Cisco held a No. 15 ranking and defeated the No. 5 team in the nation for the first time in school history.
As a high school soccer player, Smith lettered all four years at McNeil High School in Round Rock. She also was a member of the Austin Lonestar Soccer Club.
Smith began her collegiate soccer career at Cisco College (2009-2011), where she served as team captain and earned all-conference honors both seasons as a center defender. As a two-year starter, she combined for 10 goals and 12 assists in 37 games and claimed All-America honors her sophomore year. The Lady Wranglers competed in the NJCAA Region V championship game both years that Smith played.
Smith transferred to Lubbock Christian University, where she was a two-year starter and captain as a center midfielder. She earned her bachelor's degree in exercise science in May 2013.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
