Blinn softball sweeps Lamar State-Port Arthur, 6-1 and 12-3

PORT ARTHUR, Texas — Blinn College softball (19-10, 6-0) swept Lamar State College-Port Arthur,  6-1 and 12-3, Friday afternoon to maintain a perfect conference record.

The win marks Blinn softball's eighth straight.

Blinn 6 – Lamar State-Port Arthur 1

The Buccaneers used an explosive offense to defeat Lamar State-Port Arthur, 6-1, in the opening game of the doubleheader.

Blinn's offense tallied 13 hits and was led by Amber Langston who went 3-for-4, while driving in one run and scoring one run. Tori Alvarez-Lopez, Anna Pisaro, Maria Garcia and Courtney Ogle each recorded a RBI in the win.

Meghan Morris earned her 10th win after pitching her 11th complete game this season. She only allowed one run on four hits, while striking out seven.

Blinn held a 5-0 lead by the fourth inning and kept the lead the entire game.

Pisaro scored Blinn's first run in the third inning after tripling then coming home on Langston's single. The Buccaneers added four more runs in the fourth inning after starting the inning off with a string of three hits. Garcia opened the frame with a solo home run, while Bailey Zibelin followed with a single and Ogle recorded a one-run double. Lexi Harris scored Blinn's fourth run on a sacrifice fly, while Mackenzie Crews scored the Buccaneers' final run in the inning off of Pisaro's single.

Lamar State College-Port Arthur scored its only run in the sixth inning, but Blinn answered back with a run of its own in the seventh inning.  Langston scored the final run on an error.

Blinn 12 – Lamar State-Port Arthur 3

Blinn's offense continued to produce in the second game of the doubleheader to defeat Lamar State-Port Arthur, 12-3, for the sweep.

The Buccaneers tallied 18 hits as Alvarez-Lopez led the Buccaneers with three RBIs, while scoring two. Zibelin chipped in with two runs and two RBIs, while Mayela Fernandez also drove in two runs.

Ashley Richardson sealed her seventh win by throwing seven innings and surrendering just three runs and striking out six.

Blinn quickly built a 5-0 lead in the second inning when Zibelin's double, Fernandez's sacrifice fly, Kelsey Lowke's single, Alvarez-Lopez's double and Pisaro's single each drove in one run.

Lamar State-Port Arthur answered back with two runs in the bottom of the second inning, but trailed the entire game.

Pisaro tripled and Langston sent her home with a single in the fourth inning for Blinn to lead 6-2.

Lamar State-Port Arthur scored its final run in the six inning, while Blinn took off with six more runs in the seventh inning. Zibelin and Fernandez each hit one-run singles, Crews hits a one-run double, and Alvarez-Lopez hit a two-run double and scored on an error to supply Blinn's offense in the inning.

Next, Blinn will travel to play No. 2 (Division II) Louisiana State University Eunice in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 23, at noon.
