Blinn’s Evangelista named All-American

Both the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) agree – Bruna Evangelista had an All-American season for the Blinn Buccaneers this season.

Evangelista was named a second-team All-American by both organizations.

"She led us the entire year and so I really felt like it was a well-deserved honor for her," said Blinn coach Erin Mellinger. "She did her job every time she stepped on the floor."

Evangelista, a 6-foot-1 freshman from Brazil, posted 282 kills (3.17 per set) and 91 blocks (1.02 per set) for the Buccaneers this season, including a .347 hitting percentage. Arguably her best match of the year came at the Region XIV Tournament on Nov. 3, when she posted 25 kills and three blocks in a 3-1 victory over Panola College.

Evangelista, who came to Blinn after winning two state championships at Caio Libano Soares High School, wants to play for the Brazilian national team after graduating with an engineering degree.

Evangelista was named first-team all-Region XIV earlier this month.
