Bucs keep climbing in national volleyball poll

The Blinn College volleyball team continues to climb the national polls.

The Buccaneers, fresh off of victories over Temple and Odessa on Friday that extended their win streak to a season-high seven matches, climbed to No. 9 in the NJCAA Division I volleyball poll released today.

Blinn (22-5, 7-2 Region XIV Conference) has been led by freshman middle blocker Bruna Evangelista with 212 kills this season (3.12 per set), while freshman outside hitter Tyanna Roy has added 152 (2.03 per set). Freshman defensive specialist Tori Estrada leads the defense with 231 digs (3.04 per set) and freshman setter Crystal Young has dished out a team-high 640 assists (8.21 per set).

Blinn joins fellow Region XIV powerhouses San Jacinto (1) and Tyler (6) among the nation's top 10.

The Bucs, who were ranked No. 10 last week, have now climbed three spots in the past two weeks and will close their regular season Thursday when they host Lee College at 6 p.m. in the Blinn P.E. Building. The Buccaneers will honor their sophomore class prior to the match.
