No. 12 Blinn women’s golf places fifth at the UHV Claude Jacobs Invitational

VICTORIA, Texas — The No. 12 Blinn College women's golf team took fifth place at the University of Houston-Victoria Claude Jacobs Invitational on Monday at The Club at Colony Creek to open the season.

After posting a team score of 347 in the first round, the Buccaneers concluded the tournament with a round of 351. Blinn's two-round total came to 698.

"The ladies played solid golf for both rounds and this first tournament got us back in the swing of things," said David Johnson, Blinn head coach. "It will be exciting to see what progress we make in Tyler next week."

Madison Davis led the Buccaneers with a 13th-place finish after shooting an 81 and 79. Nichole Burgess placed 25th with scores of 82 and 88. Teammates Sierra Jameson shot an 84 and 87, and Rebecca Michael shot a 100 and 97.

Texas Wesleyan University won the tournament with a score of 598.

Next, the Blinn College men's and women's golf teams will compete in the Tyler Junior College Spring Invitational in Bullard on Feb. 23-25.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 41 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
