Blinn College baseball wins 7-3 in series opener against Galveston

GALVESTON, Texas — The duo of Jake Miller and Preston Hoffart combining for five RBIs led to Blinn College's 7-3 victory over Galveston College to open the conference series Thursday night on the road.

Miller recorded three RBIs, while Hoffart tallied two and Blake Faecher scored three runs in the win.

Jacob Millender recorded the win after throwing four innings and surrendering just three runs on four hits. John Chomko was solid out of the bullpen, tossing the final three innings and not allowing a hit.

Blinn scored the first run of the game in the second inning after Faecher led off with a double and later scored on a groundout.

Galveston tied the game 1-1 in the third inning, but the Buccaneers took back a 4-1 lead in the fourth inning. Hoffart, Westley Schields and Alec Sanchez hit three straight singles to load the bases and Miller unloaded them with a double.

The Whitecaps scored their final two runs in the fourth inning to gain on Blinn 4-3. However, the Buccaneers stretched their lead by scoring two runs in the fifth inning when Reggie McCalister scored on Hoffart's sacrifice fly and Faecher scored on an error.

Faecher scored the final run for Blinn in the seventh inning on a passed ball.

Next, Blinn will face Galveston in a doubleheader on Friday, April 5, starting at 4 p.m. at Leroy Dreyer Field.
