Blinn baseball rallies for 3-1 win over San Jacinto

BRYAN, Texas — Behind Jacob Millender's strong pitching performance, Blinn College baseball (13-10, 6-7) rallied for a 3-1 win over San Jacinto College-North Thursday afternoon at Nutrabolt Stadium.

"Our success today started on Monday with the team's attitude, effort and execution that continued in practice every day this week," said Harvey McIntyre, Blinn head coach. "Millender was outstanding on the mound, Grayson Smith closed the door and we took great at-bats against an elite arm."

Millender earned his second win of the season after pitching seven scoreless innings, while only surrendering one run to the Gators in the second inning and striking out nine. Smith recorded the save after not allowing a hit in the ninth inning.

On offense, Cameron Gibbons, Blake Faecher and Nick Wolff each drove in a run for the Buccaneers.

San Jacinto jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning before Blinn shutdown the Gators' offense.

Blinn evened the score 1-1 in the fifth inning when Gibbons hit a one-run single for Preston Hoffart to score.

The Buccaneers scored one run in the sixth inning to take the lead for the first time. Reggie McCalister led off with a double and later came home on Wolff's single for Blinn to move ahead 2-1.

Blinn scored its final run in the ninth inning when Faecher doubled to send home Alec Sanchez.

Next, Blinn will finish the conference series against San Jacinto at home on Friday, March 22, with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
