Blinn gets the bats going to get a win over South Suburban, 12-5

BRENHAM, Texas – Blinn College baseball got the bats going in the middle innings to pound out 16 hits in a 12-5 victory over South Suburban College Wednesday evening inside Leroy Dreyer Field in Brenham.

The win helps the Buccaneers improve to 15-10 overall and their conference records stays at 6-6. Blinn has now won six of its last seven games.

South Suburban jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning but Blinn would recover and never let South Suburban see the plate again. Blinn was able to get a few runs back in the bottom of the first when Elijah MacNamee and Angel De La Fuente singled and Sam McElreath unloaded the bases with a three-run home run to get within 5-3 of South Suburban.

Blinn went after the lead in the third when De La Fuente was hit by a pitch to get on and then was brought in by a Trent Murphy double to left to get within 5-4. George Pappas tied the game with ground out to score Austen Swift to make the score 5-5.

Jay Anderson got hit by a pitch to begin the fourth inning and was brought in by a double to right by Patrick King for a 6-5 lead. King later scored in the inning on a passed ball to take a 7-5 advantage.

Again the Buccaneers started off an inning with a batter getting hit by a pitch as Swift was the victim in the fifth and then Swift later came in to score on an error for a 8-5 edge.

Blinn started to pour it on in the sixth when MacNamee and De La Fuente hit back-to-back solo home runs for a 10-5 lead. Daniel Anciso brought in the 11th run with a sacrifice fly and then Walker Winders brought in a run with a single to left to make the score 12-5 that would hold up until the final out.

Blinn will get back into conference play with a doubleheader on the road against Laredo Community College on Friday, March 18 starting at 4 p.m.
