Blinn able to outhit Grayson but still loses, 8-3

HOUSTON, Texas – Blinn College baseball was able to outhit Grayson County College but the Buccaneers were unable to capitalize, losing 8-3 Saturday afternoon in Houston.

Leaving 13 runners on base doomed Blinn as the Buccaneers fell to 0-3 two days into the new season.

Hillen Warren had a good day at the plate with a pair of doubles and a run scored. Angel De La Fuente, Walker Winders and Colton Parrish each had two hits on the day while Jay Anderson and Elijah MacNamee knocked in a run in the loss.

Grayson grabbed control of the game by taking a 7-0 lead after four innings. Blinn also fell behind big in the season opener against New Mexico Junior College on Friday and continued fighting and the Buccaneers did the same thing against Grayson.

Winders started the fifth with a single and later was brought in by a ground out by Anderson to make the score 7-1. MacNamee followed with an RBI single to left for the second run in the inning. Grayson added an additional run in the sixth to increase its lead to 8-2.

Warren got things going in the eighth with a one-out double and then was brought in to score after a single by Parrish through the left side of the infield to get within 8-3. Unfortunately, that would be the final run scored for the Buccaneers.

Blinn will finish off the tournament in Houston with a game against McLennan Community College on Sunday, Feb. 7 at 6 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 32 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
